MAYNARDVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Union County made the playoffs last season under first year head coach Noah Malicoat. It was the Patriots’ fourth postseason appearance, but they’ve never made it past the first round.

Union County is looking to end that streak in 2024.

“We kind of have a chip on our shoulder,” said Malicoat. “We have something to prove to these guys. Historically, Union County has been either a no playoff team or a one playoff game and done kind of team. I’d like to make a run this year and kind of show the community what we’re about.”

Senior Carter Nicley has seen that community support when the Patriots have advanced to the postseason in years past. He wants to be able to deliver that same community a postseason run this year.

“When my brother was playing they made it to the playoffs and it was the biggest thing,” said Nicley. “They’re used to not winning a lot. So making playoffs, and hopefully winning a few games in playoffs, that’d mean a lot to everybody.”

The Patriots kick off the season Friday, Aug. 23 at Gibbs.
