Oneida’s quarterback duo headlines 2024 season

ONEIDA, Tenn. (WATE) – After winning just four games in 2022, Oneida football doubled that total with eight wins last season. This year, the Indians look to take that next step in the postseason, but with a new face under center. Actually, two new faces.

With veteran quarterback Caden Rector graduating, the Indians had to find a new leader of the offense. It looks like they have two options: senior Gabe Brennan who served as the backup last year, and junior Brock Ryan, who sat out last season with an injury.

“They’re battling right now everyday for the job,” said Oneida Head Coach Jimmy Lay. “They both bring different things to the table and they’re both competing. They go back and forth to be honest with you everyday. Both of them are going to lead us. Both are going to play this year.”

While the Indians offense will look different this season, the same can’t be said about the defense.

“We only lost two starters on defense,” said Lay. “I’m anxious to see how they turn it up a notch this year.”

“We’ve got a lot of guys coming back,” said junior Ben Gilbert. “Hopefully that experience can take us a long way.”

Oneida begins the 2024 season on Friday against Rockwood.
