KNOXVILLE, Tenn. ( WATE ) — Knoxville Fire crews worked an early morning house fire in the 1400 block of West 5th Avenue on Monday.

According to KFD’s health and safety officer Timothy Woods, at around 3:36 a.m., Knox County Communications District received a call from the residents of the home, who said that there was a fire in their attic.

“Upon arrival, crews saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the upper side of the home,” Woods stated in a news release. “Crews initially were able to make entrance into the house to begin firefighting operations. Very quickly, crews had to exit the structure due to the heavy fire. At this point, all firefighting operations had to be done from the exterior of the structure.”

The fire took nearly an hour to extinguish, Woods said. No injuries were reported and the two residents were able to evacuate the home.
