Knoxville man indicted after woman found dead in Western Heights apartment

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. ( WATE ) — A suspect in a Knoxville murder that occurred in January is potentially facing years in prison after a Knox County grand jury indicted him earlier this month.

Reginald Malik Depriest was indicted on a first-degree felony murder charge on August 21. He is accused in the January 5 homicide of Andrea Moore , 39.

According to a general sessions docket, on Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, the Knoxville Police Department responded to a report of a stabbing and found a woman dead in a Western Heights apartment . A witness who also lived in the apartment told responding officers that Depriest had stayed with Moore the previous night.

The witness had left the apartment about 30-45 minutes before the 911 call was made Friday and when she returned, she found Moore dead and blood throughout the apartment, a court docket states. The witness also said that Moore and Depriest had been in a heated argument early that morning and throughout the day.

Depriest was not at the scene when police arrived and a search began for him that afternoon. He later turned himself in to KPD Friday night.

A first-degree felony murder conviction can carry a sentence of up to life in prison, or life in prison without parole or the death penalty in Tennessee. A man was recently convicted of first-degree murder of a woman in Oak Ridge among other charges and an Anderson County jury sentenced him to death .
