The Pennsylvania State Police are continuing their investigation into a two-vehicle crash in Waterford Township on Friday night that killed two Erie County residents and seriously injured four others.

The driver of one of the vehicles, identified by state police in Erie as Brandon K. Borland, 23, of Waterford, and a passenger in the other vehicle, identified as Alycia N. Ingram, 19, of Union City, died in the crash on Route 97 west of Union Road, authorities reported.

The accident was reported on Friday at 9:42 p.m., state police reported. Borland and Ingram were both pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 11 p.m., according to the Erie County Coroner's Office.

According to investigators, a 2009 Chevrolet HHR driven by Borland was traveling south on Route 97 and was attempting to pass multiple vehicles when it crashed head-on into a 2006 Buick Rainier that was traveling north on on Route 97.

The 18-year-old driver of the Buick and three other passengers in his vehicle, a 22-year-old man, a 17-year-old girl and a 19-year-old man, all of Union City, were transported to UPMC Hamot with what state police said were suspected serious injuries. Updated conditions on the four were not available Monday morning.

    Fatal vehicle accidents in region

Friday night's accident was the latest in a number of fatal vehicle crashes that have occurred in the Erie region so far this year.

The Pennsylvania State Police have investigated 20 fatal traffic accidents in Troop E, which covers Erie, Crawford, Venango and Warren counties, so far this year, the agency reported. Eleven of those accidents occurred in areas covered by troopers stationed in Erie, Girard and Corry. There were 37 fatal traffic accidents in Troop E in all of 2023, according to state police.
