WATERFORD TOWNSHIP (WWJ) A motorcycle crash claimed the life of a Waterford Township man.

In a press release, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened in Independence Township, on Saturday, around 11 p.m., in the area of Sashabaw near Fowler Road. The motorcyclist, 42, was riding south on Sashabaw on a 2002 Honda CBR900 when he “failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the centerline and sideswiped” a 2018 Jeep Compass, traveling north.

The motorcycle and victim then fell to the ground. A 2022 Ford Bronco, traveling north, struck him; the sheriff’s office said.

First responders pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene. He was wearing a helmet, according to the sheriff’s office.

The driver of the Jeep Compass, 27 of Waterford Township; and the Ford Bronco, 47 of Independence Township, were wearing seatbelts and were not injured.

Speed was a factor in the crash, and it’s not clear if alcohol was involved; the sheriff’s office said.

Investigators said they will not release his name pending notification of his family.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Crash Reconstruction Unit is continuing the investigation.
