High Ridge Fire rescue woman, child and two men from Big River at Rockford Park
A 29-year-old South St. Louis County woman, a 12-year-old Fenton girl, an Imperial man and a House Springs man, were rescued from the Big River at Rockford Park on June 29. Crews from the High Ridge Fire Protection District were called to the park at 7:45 p.m. Fire Chief John Barton said the woman and girl were clinging to the cliff wall on the opposite side of the river from the park river access, calling for help. Barton said the two adult male bystanders jumped into the water to help, and they, too, had to be rescued by High Ridge Fire crews.
Hearing held Friday for Ethington
On the morning of June 28, a case management hearing was held for Jayden D. Ethington. The hearing stems from a fatal accident that took place late in the evening of June 23, 2023 in Red Bud. Ethington, who was 20 at the time of the incident, was driving a pickup truck the wrong way on East South 1st Street (a one way street), pulling out onto South Main Street and struck Kimberly A. Martin, 56, who had been crossing Main Street. Martin passed due to her injuries while being airlifted to a St. Louis area hospital.
