Reward offered in Gallia, Lawrence church arson cases
Investigators with the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of State Fire Marshal, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Gallia and Lawrence county sheriff’s offices are asking for the public’s help in identifying those responsible for at least four fires that destroyed churches in Gallia and Lawrence counties, including three that have occurred since May 10.

Ohio has passed transgender bathroom laws in schools. Are businesses next?
LIMA — A transgender bathroom ban was first introduced by North Carolina in 2016. The law, HB2, proposed people use bathrooms aligned with their gender from birth and not what they identify with. It was officially repealed in 2020 after a partial repeal in 2017 and statewide boycotting and frustrations among the community. Eight years later, states are forming similar versions of HB2 and are making it further, being signed into legislation. As it stands, 20% of the states have an active bathroom law. The law states that transgender people must use the bathroom according to their gender from birth and not what they identify as, emphasizing schools, locker rooms, and government-owned buildings.

Ohio’s 11th District Court of Appeals affirmed the conviction and prison sentence for a Champion man who was convicted of two first-degree felonious assault charges. Randy Pence, age 41, of Champion Township, was sentenced in November 2023 by Judge Ronald J. Rice to an indefinite six- to nine-year prison term for his conviction of two counts felonious assault, first-degree felonies.
