WATERLOO — Jefferson’s summer baseball team split a road doubleheader against Waterloo on Thursday, losing 2-1 before earning a 3-0 three-inning victory.

In the first game, Waterloo’s Bryce Aubart doubled home a pair of runs in the third inning.

Jefferson’s Nolan Burzlaff lined a run-scoring double to left with one out in the fourth. Burzlaff moved up to third on a passed ball but was stranded there.

Waterloo’s Jacob Gier and Aubart combined on a four-hitter, keeping the Eagles at bay in the final three frames.

Mason Merz started for Jefferson (2-1), pitching two shutout innings of one-hit ball. Jacob Danielson allowed two earned runs in one-third of an inning in the loss before Cale Schmidt tossed 3 2/3 scoreless innings.

In the second game, Burzlaff drew a bases-loaded walk in the first and Owen Tully singled home a two-out run later in the inning.

Jefferson’s Symon Byer pitched three innings of three-hit ball to earn the decision.

The Eagles host Evansville on Monday at 5 p.m.
