Nearly 50 area competitors entered in Watertown East Region High School Rodeo at Derby Downs

Nearly 50 area cowboys and cowgirls are entered in events for the Watertown East Region High School Rodeo at Derby Downs.

The Huron East Region High School Rodeo was held last week and competitors earn points from the Huron and Watetown rodeos to qualify for the State High School Finals Rodeo June 11-15 at Fort Pierre.

Events include girls and boys' cutting, reined cow horse, tiedown roping, barrel racing, bareback riding, breakaway roping, steer wrestling, pole bending, saddle bronc riding, goat tying, team roping and bull riding.

Saturday's schedule opens with registration from 8 to 10 a.m., mandatory contestant meeting at 11 a.m., grand entry at 12:15 p.m. and the rodeo at 12:30 p.m.

Registration for Sunday only contestants runs from 7:30 to 8 a.m. on Sunday, followed by a rodeo church service in the grand stand at 8 a.m., grand entry at 10:15 a.m. and the rodeo at 10:30 a.m.

Hemmingson topped the field in bareback riding last Saturday and Sunday at the Huron East River Region Rodeo.

Steer Wrestling — Faehnrich, Tyan Braskamp and Lammers.
