A project to build 21 new townhouses at the Wire Park development in Watkinsville was announced recently by Monte Hewett, a general contractor in Atlanta, and Blue Point Construction Southeast of Atlanta.

Hewett announced it had purchased property for the townhouses for $11.5 million and construction on the two-story townhouses is already underway. The company expects to begin selling the townhomes in late summer.

A separate development of 47 single-family homes at Wire Park is in a development stage with floor plans and prices planned for release later in the year, according to the release.

The townhouse development, called The Towns at Wire Park, features three bedrooms, three and a half baths, built into 2,170 square feet of space.

Hewett, the president of the company, released a statement describing why he joined the Wire Park venture.

“Gibbs Capital (Wire Park developer) did an exceptional job envisioning and developing Wire Park," Hewett noted. "Focusing on walkability, it creates a true neighborhood feel where residents enjoy a slower pace of life afforded by amenities just outside the front door.”

Wire Park, covering 66 acres, already features apartments, multiple restaurants, an array of shops and other businesses. The Oconee County Library also opened at the location earlier this year. The mixed-use development is located off Barnett Shoals Road within walking distance of the downtown area.

Hewett, according to the release, has been involved in several high profile residential developments in Atlanta including Avalon, Halcyon and Madison Yards.
