    APRIL 2: HISTORY OF FOOD, CULTURE

    The Waunakee Public Library will host a Zoom program titled, The Foods, People, and Innovations That Feed Us–A Sweeping History of Food and Culture with Smithsonian Curator Paula J. Johnson, at 1 p.m. April 2. Virtually step into the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History with Curator Paula Johnson as she discusses the book Smithsonian American Table: The Foods, People, and Innovations That Feed Us.

    APRIL 4: SURVIVE AND THIRVE

    Tim Decorah is an accomplished Waunakee teacher of 32 years and has been sharing his story since an anxiety disorder threatened to derail his life in 2021. Tim decided to ask for help and get the necessary strategies to help manage his anxiety. His talks have captivated communities, school districts, and colleges throughout Wisconsin and beyond. Join Waunakee Public Library Thursday, April 4, 6:30 p.m. as Tim shares his story and offers tips for managing anxiety.

    APRIL 4: MEMORY CAFE

    The Dementia Friendly Waunakee Committee will sponsor its monthly Memory Café on Thursday, April 4, from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Steeplechase Condominium Clubhouse, 5636 Conway Glen (off Woodland Drive). Signs will be posted to direct people to the Clubhouse. The Café’s theme will be “April Showers and Other Weather.” Dana Fulton, WKOW TV Wake Up Wisconsin Meteorologist, will talk with those attending about weather. The Café provides a social gathering place and programs for those with mild cognitive impairment or early to mid-stage dementia, along with their family members or friends. Memory Cafes are held the first Thursday of each month. Participants do not have to be residents of Waunakee; all are welcome. Those who attend can wear masks if they choose; those who are not vaccinated against COVID are requested to wear masks.     APRIL 7: LAKE MELVIN YACHT CLUB MEETING, MEAT RAFFLE

    The Lake Melvin Yacht Club will meet on Sunday, April 7, starting at 1 p.m. at Peg & Doc’s Sports Bar, 106 Dane St. in Dane. Anyone interested in learning about the Lake Melvin Yacht Club is also welcomed to attend. A meat raffle will be held with proceeds going to the club to help families in need. It will start at 1:30 p.m.

    APRIL 9: CONFRONTING A SON’S KILLER

    The Waunakee Public Library will host a Zoom program at 1 p.m. April 9 titled, From Murder to Atonement–Confronting My Son’s Killer with Diane Foley & Colum McCann. This will be a one-of-a-kind conversation with National Book Award-winner Colum McCann as he is joined by Diane Foley, the inspiration behind the heartrending book “American Mother.” Can’t view at this time?     APRIL 11: AMERICAN LEGION MEETING

    American Legion Post 360, 417 East Main St., Waunakee will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, April 11, in the Legion clubroom beginning with a cookout. Bring your own meat and table service. Coals will be ready at 6 p.m. followed by the monthly meeting at 7 p.m. New members are welcome. If you have served federal active duty in the United States Armed Forces since Dec. 7, 1941, and have been honorably discharged or are still serving, you are eligible for membership in The American Legion.

    APRIL 12: LEGION FISH FRY

    American Legion Post 360, 417 East Main St., Waunakee will have a fish fry on April 12, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Music will be provided by the Ukulele players from 5 — 7 p.m. Carry-outs are available. Cash or check only. Menu includes deep fried and baked cod, baked potato, French fries, coleslaw, baked beans, rolls, mac and cheese, cookies and coffee, milk, and water.     APRIL 18: LEGION AUXILIARY MEETING

    American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) Unit 360, 417 East Main Street, Waunakee will hold its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, April 18, at 6:30 p.m. This is a new time. Anyone interested in learning about the ALA and its service to veterans and the community is welcome to attend. ALA membership is open to spouses and widows of America’s military men and women veterans, as well as mothers, sisters, children, and grandchildren of veterans.     APRIL 22: FAREWELL TO HERITAGE

    The Waunakee Community School District invites the public to a Community Open House to say goodbye to Heritage Elementary with a nostalgic last look before the school moves to the new campus next year. The open house will be from 6-7:30 p.m. April 22 at the school, 501 South St.
