The Waunakee Public Library has announced a new Library Card Design Contest to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the new library building at 201 N. Madison St.

The library is calling on artists and library lovers of all ages to submit an original design that incorporates the theme “Explore at the Library.” Submissions open on Friday, May 17, online or at the library, and are due by 6 p.m. on Friday, June 21. Library staff will pick their top 5 entries, and the public will vote on the finalists for a winner.

The winning artist will receive a $150 prize, and their design will be featured on library cards available to patrons starting in September in celebration of National Library Card Sign Up Month.

“One thing that’s been very rewarding with our new building is incorporating more local art displays and being able to offer more artistic programs, so we’re looking forward to extending that to our library cards with this contest” said Youth Services Librarian Brittany Gitzlaff. “We have great artists in our community and are excited to see what people come up with.”

Opened in August 2019, the new Waunakee Public Library building is 40,000 square feet and features programming spaces, expanded collections, study rooms, play areas, and local history exhibits.
