    MAY 21: CAREGIVER RESOURCE FAIR

    Waunakee’s Dementia Friendly Committee is sponsoring its first annual Caregiver Resource Fair on Tuesday, May 21, 11 AM-2 PM, in the lower level of the Village Center, 333 Madison Street, Waunakee. More than 20 agencies will be exhibiting at the event. They will provide those attending with information about services they offer to enable people to stay in their homes or be cared for at their facilities. Visitors can talk with any or all of the exhibitors at the Fair.

    MAY 20: SOUNDS OF MARIACHI

    A vibrant live show with an 8-piece mariachi band! Immerse yourself in the magic of mariachi as these talented artists captivate us with their music and share the fascinating history and cultural relevance of this unique genre. Will be conducted primarily in Spanish, with the support of an English interpreter to ensure everyone’s participation. Waunakee Public Library, Monday, May 20, 6:30 p.m.

    MAY 21: AUTHOR TALK ON ZOOM

    Asian American Representation in Literature. Waunakee Public Library welcomes you to a thrilling conversation with Rebecca F. Kuang (R.F. Kuang) as she chats with us about her New York Times bestselling novel, Yellowface, which grapples with questions of diversity, racism, and cultural appropriation, as well as the terrifying alienation of social media.     MAY 22: VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

    Kids are invited to dive into FPC’s SCUBA Vacation Bible School. Families can register by May 22 to get a fin-tastic t-shirt! Scuba VBS will be Sunday, June 9-Tuesday, June 11, 5-7:30 p.m. Dinner is included every night. All children ages 3 years (potty trained) — 5th grade (in the fall) are encouraged to participate, regardless of your church affiliation. Registration is $30 for the first child and $20 for each sibling. Fee assistance is always available. Kids will plunge into their friendship with God! Guaranteed oceans of fun with friends, Bible adventures, science experiments, games, music, skits and more! Adults and older children can volunteer (no charge for volunteers-volunteer background forms available).     MAY 27: MEMORIAL DAY EVENTS

    Memorial Day May 27, American Legion Post 360 will have ceremonies for the departed veterans at the following cemeteries: 8 a.m., Union Cemetery in Vienna, Hwy 113; 8:20 a.m., Kolman Cemetery, West Woodland Drive; 8:40 a.m., Kingsley Cemetery, Kingsley Road; 9 a.m., St John’s Cemetery; 9:30 a.m., St Mary’s Cemetery. The Memorial Program starts off with a parade at 10:30 a.m. at the Fire Station on O’Malley Street then to Main Street. The Poppy Queen, Joyce Endres and Poppy Princess, Isabelle Gordon will be in the parade. The American Legion Color Guard leads the parade to the American Legion Post 360, 417 East Main St., Waunakee. At 11 a.m., the program begins with the Pledge of Allegiance, Prayer, and Eulogy Minister Melissa Hathaway, Laying of Wreath, Roll call of our deceased Veterans, Prayer, Salute to our departed Comrades and Taps. Potluck lunch will be served following the program, the Legion will provide hotdogs.

    JUNE 6 — WAUNAKEE MEMORY CAFE

    Waunakee’s Dementia Friendly Committee will sponsor its monthly Memory Café on Thursday, May 2, from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Steeplechase Condominium Clubhouse, 5636 Conway Glen (off Woodland Drive). Signs will be posted to direct people to the Clubhouse. The Café’s theme will be “Shhh! It’s a surprise!” The Café provides a social gathering place and programs for those with mild cognitive impairment or early to mid-stage dementia, along with their family members or friends. Memory Cafes are held the first Thursday of each month. Participants do not have to be residents of Waunakee; all are welcome.
