While Annika Lee has an extremely bright future, her present is pretty great, too.

The Waunakee freshman, representing the Waunakee/DeForest gymnastics co-op, turned in a strong performance in her first-ever trip to the WIAA Division 1 state gymnastics meet Friday and Saturday in Wisconsin Rapids.

“She was eager from the get-go and ready to preform,” said Ashley Young, head coach of the co-op. “Most of the people that placed above her were seniors, so we are looking forward to her being up even higher on everything next year after working new skills in the offseason.”

Finishing second in the floor exercise, scoring a 9.3833. Her third-place score in the vault set a new school record, as she finished with a 9.617.

Lee also tallied a 9.1 to take eighth in the balance beam, while also scoring an 8.7667 in the uneven bars to finish 14th.

Lee also took fourth in the all-around, 38.8667.

“What she did is truly remarkable as a freshman, and we can't wait to see where she goes from here,” said Young.
