    Boys lacrosse: Warriors net regional wins over Madison, WNS

    After a close first quarter, the No. 1 ranked, undefeated Waunakee boys’ lacrosse team pulled away from Madison in a 10-4 WIAA regional win on Thursday, as Gunnar McFadden netted a hat trick.

    Ethan Evans totaled two goals, while Wade Bryan, Brandon Sawicki, Cole Savola, Justin Sawicki and Charlie King also scored goals.

    King dished out three assists, as McFadden recorded two helpers and Evans had an assist.

    Logan Ehle scooped up four groundballs, with Bryan and Justin Sawicki collected three apiece.

    Ehle also had five forced turnovers/takeaways. Michael Mercuri finished with four, while Bryan and Nate Samson had three apiece.

    On Saturday, the Warriors host Oregon at 1 p.m. They opened the postseason on Tuesday, May 28, by dismantling the WNS Wolfpack 21-2. It was 15-0 at the half.

    McFadden had six goals and eight assists, while King finished with five goals and three assists. Justin Sawicki chipped in with three goals and two assists, and Taggert McKelvey added four goals and an assist.
