    July 3, 1924

    The Waunakee Canning Co. started packing the first peas in the new factory Thursday. The outlook for the pea crop is very promising.

    Miss Rutilla Endres and Jacob Weber were united in marriage at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church here on Tuesday, July 1.

    Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Endres announce the birth of a son on Wednesday, June 25.

    The Waunakee baseball team lost to Cottage Grove on Sunday by a score of 6-1.

    The Waunakee Men’s Club members are busy making final preparations for the July 4th celebration at Klein’s Park.

    Mrs. Kalte Kohlman, mother of V.A. Kohlman, died Monday morning at St. Mary’s Hospital.

    Miss Mary Littel and Thomas Gorman were united in marriage at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 21.

    Jonas Reis was re-elected clerk for a two-year term at the high school meeting held Monday.

    Miss Clara M. Herricks and Andrew P. Derra were united in marriage at Our Lady of Lourdes Church at Dobee on Tuesday, June 20.

    In Rosenberg’s Store advertisement, the following prices are listed: sugar, 10 lbs., 49 cents; lemons, 25 cents a dozen; bananas, 5 cents a pound; new Cobbler potatoes, $1.29 a bushel; ladies’ wash dresses, 60 cents to $1.98.

    Raymond Worringer was elected high school treasurer at the annual school meeting held Monday night.

    Mr. and Mrs. Raphael Slack are the parents of a daughter born at St. Mary’s Hospital on June 25.

    The Civic Club team lost to a strong Penn. Electric Sunday night by a score of 1-0.

    Mr. and Mrs. Edward Ballweg announce the birth of a daughter at St. Mary’s Hospital on June 23.

    Sr. M. Philip and Sr. M. John left for St. Agnes Convent, Fond du Lac, on Tuesday.

    Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kalscheur announce the birth of a daughter, Mary Catherine, on June 20, at St. Mary’s Hospital.

    A total of 790 votes were cast at the high school meeting Monday night. James Tierney, John Draxler and Laverne Endres were elected to the board.

    Mr. and Mrs Albert Kuehn announce the birth of a daughter at St. Mary’s Hospital on Tuesday, June 29.

    A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ray Kuntz, Waunakee, on Thursday, June 24, at St. Mary’s Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kelley of Dane announce the birth of a son at St. Mary’s Hospital on June 27.

    The Bon Ton Bakery, 104 W. Main St., owned and operated by Glen Friese, has been sold to Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Johnson of Martinsville.

    Congratulations are in order for Mr. and Mrs. Donald Schmit, parents of a son at born at St. Mary’s Hospital on June 23.

    Mrs. Lois Hellenbrand phoned to inform us that she picked a ripe tomato in her garden on Tuesday, and she brought it to the Tribune office to prove it.

    A son was born to Mr. and Mrs Joseph Steinle, Waunakee, on Tuesday, June 16, at St. Mary’s Hospital.

    With the continuing wet season, everyone was wondering whether the farmers would even get their seeds planted, much less how they would grow underwater.

    Miss Marge Dorn and Mr. Bruce Tessner were united in marriage Saturday, June 8, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

    St. John the Baptist Catholic Church was the setting for Ms. Mary Lyn Wipperfurth to become the bride of Donald Hoffman on June 7.

    Richard Madigan, Waunakee, was greeted at a Madison hospital late Wednesday after receiving multiple bruises and cuts when a farm tractor he was operating overturned on him in a field.

    Marianne Diericks has been named editor of the Wisconsin Badger, the university yearbook.

    Pam Adler was selected as Waunakee’s Junior Miss for 1985 at the annual Junior Miss program last Saturday evening at the high school auditorium.

    JoAnn Dresen, daughter of John and Barb Dresen, Waunakee, participated in the Miss Wisconsin pageant held June 1-3 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Milwaukee.

    Vernon Acker has announced his candidacy to represent the 81st Assembly district in the September election.

    Father Elmer Dietzel is leaving St. John’s Catholic Church to become pastor at Brodhead with responsibility for a mission church at Albany.

    The Waunakee Village Board approved a zoning change to allow construction of six senior citizen duplexes on the south side of the Waunakee Manor property.

    The 1994 Parade of Homes has a Waunakee site in the Six Mile Creek subdivision.

    Tom Gaughan, 83, won the Dane County Senior Olympics bowling tournament in the men’s super senior division by bowling 53 pins over his average.

    Brian Vogt came in 10th in the 3,200-meter race at the WIAA track and field state meet.

    The 216 members of the Waunakee High School graduating class received diplomas during commencement Saturday evening.

    Waunakee’s Economic Development Committee Monday got a first peek at a concept plan for the former Koltes Lumber property. Hovde properties purchased the site more than a year ago and presented a plan for retail on the ground floor and offices above.

    Workers at Techline who have been employed at the Waunakee company for decades held a picnic before their final day Friday. Techline is due to close its doors after 45 years in the community.

    Isabella Karls is the intern for the Village of Waunakee who can answer all questions related to the Main Street construction.

    County clerks in Dane County along with other Wisconsin counties are issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples after a federal judge struck down the state’s ban of gay marriage.

    Pastor Sharon Cook of Crossroads United Methodist Church will leave the pulpit to pursue a new career path with the Wisconsin United Methodist Church Conference in an administrative role.
