A motorcycle driver died Saturday night after being struck by an oncoming vehicle driven by an impaired driver, according to the Wood County Sheriff’s Department.

The crash was reported just before midnight Aug. 31 on South Biron Drive in the town of Biron. Police say a driver crossed the center line, striking the motorcycle.

Lifesaving measures were not successful and the motorcycle driver died at the scene of the crash. The driver who allegedly crossed the center line was arrested on preliminary charges of third-offense drunken driving, though they could face homicide charges in Wood County Circuit Court.

A passenger in the car fled the scene but was later located in Plover.

No names have been released. More information is expected on Monday, and the crash remains under investigation.
