    NNPD: 7-year-old seriously hurt after auto-pedestrian crash on Jefferson Ave.

    NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – The Newport News Police Department responded to an auto-pedestrian crash involving a 7-year-old Friday morning.

    According to officials, just after 9 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 12000 block of Jefferson Avenue for reports of an accident.

    Officers arrived to the scene and found a 7-year-old boy in the roadway, who was later transferred to a local hospital with serious injuries.

    An investigation revealed the 7-year-old entered the roadway when he was then struck by a vehicle. Police said the driver of the vehicle remained on the scene.

    The northbound lanes of Jefferson Avenue, near Hogan Drive, remain closed as the incident remains under investigation.
