FIDF Ohio chapter part of Israel visit, provides ‘connection’ post-Oct. 7
About 30 people involved with the Central Region of the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces took a mission trip to Israel from June 23 through June 27. When creating the itinerary and goals for the trip, the FIDF thought about how it could best share the stories from Oct. 7, 2023, when Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel, and help people understand that this is a historical time, Tamir Oppenheim, vice president of the central region of the FIDF, told the Columbus Jewish News July 17. The same itinerary has been used four times and is planned to be used again later this year. The Central Region of the group includes the Ohio, Michigan, Illinois and Dallas chapters.

WEEK 1 (Aug. 23) ■ Southview at Northview: In the battle of Sylvania, the rivals clash in the opener for the second straight season. The Cougars, who won the inaugural Northern Lakes League Cardinal Division title in 2023, defeated the Wildcats 34-0 at home last season. Southview holds a 28-17-1 lead in the annual Crosstown Classic. BGSU welcomes award-winning country singer for free Homecoming concert
As part of its 2024 Homecoming celebration, Bowling Green State University invites the community to enjoy a free pre-game concert featuring country music star Phil Vassar at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 28 at Doyt L. Perry Stadium. Set to hype up fans for the homecoming football matchup against Old Dominion, the free 90-minute concert will take place in Tailgate Park just south of The Doyt. Vassar’s singles include “Carlene,” “Just Another Day in Paradise,” and “In a Real Love.” Following the concert, the community is invited to watch the Falcons take on the Old Dominion Monarchs. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. and a free fireworks show will follow the game.
