(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — For the first time since Bill Veeck sold the White Sox in 1981, the Veeck family is back in the baseball business in Chicago.

Veeck's son Mike, grandson Night Train, and Bill Murray teamed up to buy the Joliet Slammers.

Bill Veeck planted the ivy at Wrigley Field and installed the fireworks at Comiskey Park. His wife Mary Frances Veeck hosted a talk show on WBBM.

Night Train Veeck tells the Noon Business Hour that he will live up to the family legacy of memorable ballpark experiences.

“That's a big question, Rob, and one that I don't necessarily know the answer to quite yet. But believe me, we are hunting it down and hunting it down quickly.”

Night Train also spoke about how Bill Murray, who is a passionate Cubs fan, has a keen baseball mind.

“He appreciates the little things like we do. We're actually getting set up right now in the park to make sure that when we open up, it looks perfect for fans and everybody out here.”

Fireworks are on the menu at Joliet Slammers games. The team has 10 fireworks nights on the schedule this year.

Opening weekend will feature college night and Mothers Day at the park on Sunday.
