'Get Well' cards being collected for north suburban police therapy dog

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A police therapy dog in the north suburbs that helps people during difficult times is now facing her own health challenge.

That's why K-9 Chloe's human partners are asking the public to send her "get well" cards.

A cancerous lump was found on one of the golden retriever's hips during a routine checkup.

Northbrook Police Deputy Chief Marc Fainman says the golden retriever comforts people during difficult times.

“Chloe and her handler will respond and offer crisis counseling and support and therapy and a friendly visit, when it's needed,” Fainman said.

“Chloe's formed really positive relationships with many people in the community. She's also very popular and close with the employees of the village of Northbrook and the police department.”

Fainman says Chloe is so popular in the community, people wanted to show support for her.

He says that's why the police department is suggesting "get well" cards.

“If someone wants to show their support, they can create a card, draw, write or craft a card together that expresses your love and well wishes for Chloe. And it can either be mailed or dropped off at the police department.”

Fainman says the cancer was caught early, and veterinarians are hopeful about Chloe's treatment.

Updates on her recovery will be posted to the Northbrook Police Department's Facebook and X accounts.
