Receiving a threatening phone call or text demanding a fine payment for missing jury duty can be very scary.

Jury duty scams manipulate a person’s fear of law enforcement. It starts with a text or call claiming to be from a local law enforcement or judicial agency.

The caller may identify themselves as the local sheriff, telling you that you’ve missed a jury duty summons and could be arrested. They may even claim that a warrant for your arrest has already been issued and the only way out is to pay a fine.

Remember, though: No official agency will call you and demand immediate payments by wire transfer, gift cards, cryptocurrency, debit card, or banking app transfers.
