    Fiber projects in Pendleton and Pocahontas counties awarded funds

    CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WBOY) — Three out of 10 new Line Extension Advancement and Development (LEAD) program awards will be going to broadband projects in Pendleton and Pocahontas counties.

    West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice (R) announced Wednesday that a total of nearly $33 million will be distributed through the West Virginia Broadband Investment Plan’s LEAD program.

    Of that nearly $33 million, Spruce Knob Seneca Rocks Telephone, Inc. will be getting more than $1.9 million in LEAD funds and $308,100 in matching funds for three different projects.

    One will be in the Brandywine area of Pendleton County and will lay down 5 miles of fiber along 119 addresses. The second will be in the Upper Tract area of Pendleton County and lay down 16 miles of fiber along 122 addresses. The third will be in the Green Bank, Arbovale and Durbin areas of Pocahontas County and lay down 9 miles of fiber along 117 addresses.

    The rest of the funds will be awarded to Armstrong Telecommunications, Inc. for fiber projects in Wayne, Putnam and Cabell counties; Citynet, LLC for fiber projects in Wetzel, Ohio and Marshall counties and Comcast Cable Communications, LLC for fiber projects in Mineral County.

    Projects selected for awards will receive Preliminary Approval Announcements, which will be published on the West Virginia Broadband Enhancement Council’s website .
