President Switch Day held at Davis & Elkins College

ELKINS W.Va. (WBOY) — Friday at Davis & Elkins College was President Switch Day, which gave Junior Isabella Martinelli and President Chris Wood a chance to walk a mile in each other’s shoes.

President Switch Day is an old tradition at Davis and Elkins that fell by the wayside temporarily before making a comeback in 2022. The student who participates in the tradition is nominated by a staff member and then chosen by an executive leadership team at the college.

During the switch, Martinelli had meetings with the Alumni Director, the Dean of Students and Public Safety. Meanwhile, President Wood attended Martinelli’s nursing classes, ate lunch at the dining hall and went to her lacrosse practice.

“This is just an opportunity to see the college from her eyes and to get a better understanding as president of what our students are experiencing and how we can improve that,” Wood said.

Martinelli said that the experience gave her an appreciation for what goes into running a school and the administration’s effort and that people suggested that as president she should cancel classes for the day and give everyone a raise.
