MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — Monongalia County Schools officials plan to officially launch the system’s new cellphone policy for students starting next week.

The Board of Education approved a new smartphone-free policy that requires students in grades 6 through 12 to place their phones in YONDR magnetically-sealing pouches during class time.

School resumed for those students on Aug. 20, but Superintendent Dr. Eddie Campbell told 12 News that the pouches were not delivered to the county school system until last Friday.

Campbell said that the pouches will be distributed to students on Tuesday of next week, after the Labor Day holiday.

The pouches and magnetic unlocking devices cost the Monongalia County school system approximately $150,000.
