MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — If you are a fan of the Flintstones, you might be interested to learn more about this week’s Restaurant Road Trip—a Stone Age-themed food truck aiming to make their meals affordable for families.

Earlier this year, owner Anthony Masturzo and his dad Joe Masturzo started Boca Shack alongside the rest of their family. It’s a food truck they describe as a rolling concession stand with a caveman twist.

“It basically started with a snow cone machine, we bought a snow cone machine, started making snow cones and then the next thing that you know we like “Hey let’s try out some popcorn” so then we made some flavored popcorn and then we had the flavored popcorn going on and we’re like you know what let’s take this show on the road so we looked into getting a truck,” said Joe Masturzo.

Boca Shack’s best sellers include the Jurassic Fry, which comes in a three-pound boat and includes pork barbecue and nacho cheese with barbecue across the top, and the Neanderthal nachos, which are similar but with chips instead of fries and a few additional toppings.

The owners explained that the name BOCA comes from the family.

“BOCA Shack stands for Braelyn, Olivia, Cheyenne and Anthony, that’s my family’s name. And also in Italian it means eat, that’s what you eat with, is boca,” said Anthony Masturzo.

Even during its rookie season, this family-run business makes sure it’s giving back to the community, like collecting donations and giving a percentage of its profit to WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital through the Children’s Miracle Network, according to the Masturzos.

”We’re not in this for the money, we’re in this to make sure people have the services they need,” said Joe Masturzo.

Not only does the family-focused food truck take pride in their food, but also their prices.

“If a family goes to a fair, they pay a lot of money for their kids to go to the fair. Sometimes a lot of them can’t afford to eat so we made our prices low enough that they can come to our booth and eat, that’s why we have a kids meal,” said Joe Masturzo.

Masturzos said a fun fact about their truck is that it was originally a motorcycle trailer that Anthony and his friends retrofitted. Currently, the truck is all-electric, so all food preparations is done at the East-West stadium where their commissary is, as they run four other concession stands in the area.

At the end of the day, for the Masturzo’s this truck is all about family.

“I do it to spend time with my dad because he’s retired, so we just go around and have fun and make memories,” said Anthony Masturzo.

The truck is set to operate mainly during the summer season, but the Masturzo’s said they do have some events already scheduled for December, with plans to bring out some steak dishes in the near future. You can stay up to date with the truck’s location when you visit its Facebook page here .
