CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — Robert C. Byrd High School (RCB) has received several thousand dollars from T-Mobile to support the Eagles’ football program.

T-Mobile announced on Friday that RCB has received a $5,000 prize as part of T-Mobile’s nationwide Friday Night 5G Lights program . The program lets schools from across the country apply to win money to go toward upgrading their football facilities.

On top of $5,000 and $25,000 prizes, the contest also offers a grand prize of a $2 million “football field technology makeover.” An official with T-Mobile said that even though RCB won the $5,000 prize, the school is still eligible for the $2 million grand prize.

Officials said that 16 winners of the $25,000 prizes will be announced in early October and the grand prize winner will be announced in early December.

South Harrison High School has also applied to this contest with the goal of using the prize money to refurbish Gary Barnette Field, which has been damaged by West Virginia’s summer drought .

Applications are open until Sept. 20. To see if your school has applied, to enter or to learn more, you can visit the contest’s website.
