    West Virginia lowlands under heat advisory, heat index could reach 103 degrees

    CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — After setting a few record low temperatures last week , West Virginia is back to summer weather with some areas under a heat advisory Wednesday.

    Starting at noon on Aug. 28, Harrison, Doddridge, Lewis, Gilmer and Ritchie counties in north central West Virginia are under a heat advisory , meaning there an increased risk of heat illness. It will be hot and humid with heat indexes reaching up to 103 degrees, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

    The advisory will remain in effect until 8 p.m.

    Across the state, the advisory extends west and south to the Ohio River and also covers part of West Virginia’s Eastern Panhandle.

    “Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles
    under any circumstances,” the NWS advisory says.

    A hazardous weather outlook in relation to the heat is also in place Wednesday and is more widespread across West Virginia. These hot conditions are expected to stick around until Friday, according to the NWS .

    There is also a chance of strong storms in West Virginia Wednesday afternoon and evening, particularly in the northern part of the state.
