Coroner identifies custodial worker at Dunmore Elementary

DUNMORE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Lackawanna County Coroner Timothy Rowland has identified the man who was found dead in Dunmore Elementary School.

Dunmore Police Chief Salvatore Marchese tells 28/22 News that they, along with the Lackawanna County DA, are actively investigating a death at the Dunmore Elementary Center after a man died in the school on August 27.

According to the release, 81-year-old Gary Porter was discovered deceased in the school on Tuesday night.

Dunmore School District Superintendent, John Marichak, tells us Porter, who was part of the contracted cleaning crew, died in the school last week, one day before students returned to begin the school year.

Details are limited at this time. Police say this is an ongoing investigation and will release more information as it becomes available.
