NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — The Horry County Coroner’s Office has identified a 60-year-old man who was hit and killed by his own vehicle in North Myrtle Beach on Monday.

Joseph Sapps Jr. of North Myrtle Beach died after he was hit by his disabled vehicle on Sea Mountain Highway, Deputy Coroner Michelle McSpadden said.

North Myrtle Beach police and fire units responded at about 12:05 p.m. for a possible fatal collision involving a pedestrian, police said. When they arrived, they learned Sapps was driving his vehicle on Sea Mountain Highway near Spring Street when it became disabled.

Sapps then got out of the vehicle and walked to the front of it when it started moving forward and ran him over, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
