MURRELLS INLET, S.C. (WBTW) — With summer coming to an unofficial end over the Labor Day weekend, many watersport businesses in Murrells Inlet got one last busy “pop” of the season.

Seakart Adventure and Crazy Sister Marina offer activities on the water for most of the year, but with kids going back to school in August, business slowed down a little. However, things picked back up again for Labor Day weekend.

“It was like that ‘nother pop of summer for us, everything was great,” said Katelin Lindrose, Crazy Sister Marina’s marketing manage. “We had tons of people out.”

Crazy Sister Marina offers everything from private charters, boat rentals, dolphin tours and kayaking. Lindrose said their busy season usually begins around Easter and ends after Labor Day.

However, they keep busy in the off-season doing boat maintenance, marina projects and creating new tours.

“There really is no down-season for us here,” Lindrose said. “It’s just a little less customers at that time and working towards the next summer.”

Their neighbors at Seakart Adventure, which opened last year, said bookings doubled from last Labor Day weekend to this year. The business stayed nearly sold out over the weekend.

“You know, we’re the new kid on the block, and we do have something that’s very unique,” owner Lorrie Zimecki said. “So we tend to be booked, and we’re booked through the whole summer, and that didn’t change this weekend.”

Zimecki and her husband discovered Seakart Adventure in Dubai and brought it to Murrells Inlet. She said the jet ski-boat hybrid is a first of its kind in the United States.

“Getting to hear from repeat customers, that was really exciting for us, really rewarding for us,” Zimecki said. “Knowing that they had come last season and had wanted to come back this season over Labor Day weekend to go back out on Seakart Adventure because they enjoyed it so much.”

She says she credits the busy weekend to nice, but hot weather.

“People wanted to get on the water and just get a relief and, you know, have a special memory that they could tuck into their Labor Day vacation.”

Officials with both Crazy Sister Marina and Seakart Adventure said they will offer their watersports through the end of October. Seakart plans to add two more boats to its fleet before the season ends.
