CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Dominion Energy is mobilizing crews across South Carolina in response to Tropical Storm Debby, which is expected to bring prolonged heavy rains and strong winds throughout the week. Customers are urged to prepare for potential flooding and extended power outages.

Debby drops heavy rain as bands sweep through Lowcountry; breaking record rainfall totals

Crews, vehicles, and equipment are strategically positioned across Dominion Energy’s service area. An additional 250 crew members and resources from states like Kentucky and West Virginia are focusing efforts along the coastal areas, anticipated to be hardest hit.

“Every storm is unique, but Debby is particularly so considering its extremely slow-moving nature,” said Keller Kissam, president of Dominion Energy South Carolina. “It was already slow, but now it has come practically to a crawl, hanging over South Carolina while bringing buckets of rain and gusty winds. Our crews will not stop working until every customer’s power is back on.”

In preparation, Dominion Energy has begun lowering Lake Murray’s water level and is maintaining communication with neighboring utilities to secure additional resources if needed.

    Customer Safety Tips:

    • Downed Power Lines: Assume all downed power lines are live and dangerous. Keep a safe distance and report them immediately at 888-333-4465.
    • Flood Safety : Avoid flooded areas where power lines may be submerged.
    • Natural Gas : No need to turn off natural gas at the meter unless flooding risks extinguishing pilot lights. Contact a contractor to inspect flooded gas appliances.
    • Reporting Outages : Use the Dominion Energy app, visit DominionEnergy.com , or call 800-251-7234 to report outages and track restoration.
    • Check Outage Map: Use the Dominion Energy outage map for up-to-date information.
    • Stay Informed : Follow Dominion Energy on social media for updates and safety tips.

Dominion Energy remains dedicated to customer safety and restoring services as Tropical Storm Debby continues to impact South Carolina.
