GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Deputies in Georgetown County say they have found no evidence of animal cruelty after receiving numerous reports over the week.

Initially, a Hemingway caller said they found a decapitated dog in a ditch on Aug. 16 near County Line Road, according to the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office. The resident said that was the second time they had found a dead dog that week.

Investigators said they did find a dead dog off County Line Road on the edge of a drainage pond, but it appeared to have been struck by a vehicle. Its head was intact.

Georgetown County investigators did visit three other sites where other callers had reported dead dogs in Williamsburg County and found one decomposing animal that appeared to have been scavenged by other animals.

The Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office is also investigating.
