CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A fire sprinkler system quickly controlled an apartment fire at 305 Seven Farms Drive late Saturday night.

The Charleston Fire Department was dispatched at 11:40 p.m. to the three-story apartment building after an automatic fire alarm was triggered. Emergency personnel arrived within five minutes and found smoke in the hallway. The call was upgraded, bringing additional units from the North Charleston and Mount Pleasant Fire Departments.

Firefighters located the fire in a third-floor apartment, where the building’s sprinkler system contained it. They evacuated the building, extinguished the fire, checked for any fire spread, and turned off the sprinkler system.

According to the Charleston Fire Department, investigators from the Fire Marshal’s Office determined that the fire originated in a third-floor apartment and was confined to the room of origin, thanks to the sprinkler system. The cause of the fire is still under investigation but is believed to be related to an electrical issue.

A total of 40 apartment units were evacuated during the incident. While fire damage was limited to the apartment where the fire started, six additional units suffered water damage. All tenants were able to return to their apartments, except those in the water-damaged units.

No injuries were reported. The American Red Cross was called to assist three adults and one child, while other displaced tenants stayed with family or friends.
