CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Traffic is backed up significantly on part of I-74 West after a semi-truck broke down in one of the lanes Friday afternoon.

Illinois State Police said as of around 1:20 p.m. at Milepost 177.5 — halfway between I-57 and Mahomet — the semi-truck is blocking the right lane. They added that the left lane is open, but the obstruction has caused a large backup.

Police ask that drivers exercise caution when driving through the area and, if possible, take alternate routes until the semi-truck can be removed.

    This is a developing story.
