SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (NEXSTAR) — Benjamin Reed will stand trial Monday afternoon. He was charged with the murder of Deidre Silas back in 2022.

Silas, 36, was a social worker with DCFS. In January of 2022, she went on a home visit in Thayer, Illinois. It was there that she was stabbed and killed .

Authorities later arrested Benjamin Reed at a Decatur Hospital. He was charged with the murder of Silas.

Reed’s trial will be a bench trial, which means the judge will decide the case from the bench instead of a jury.

This is a developing story. We will provide updates as we learn more.
