URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — If you or someone you know is looking to escape the heat this week, WCIA has a list full of available cooling centers across Central Illinois . One of those places is the Urbana Free Library.

They’re extending a helping hand in making sure community members are staying safe. Ready Illinois suggest that you avoid outside activities, wear light colored clothes, and stay hydrated with water or electrolyte solutions during extreme heat.

Champaign Park Districts offers free admission to two places as cooling centers

“The library is a resource for many different reasons in the community, but as a cooling center, we just want to provide a safe space where people can get out of the heat and, you know, make sure that they are safe if they don’t have access to air conditioning,” said Lyndzie Taylor, Library Communication and Development Manager

The Urbana free library is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

If you’re looking for other cooling centers, Market Place and Lincoln Square Mall are two others. For a list of all the spots in the community and surrounding cities, click here .
