SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The Illinois Department of Labor has released a report highlighting the agency’s achievements in the past year.

The annual report highlights department statistics, including how much they recovered in wages, how staff members advocated for workers who unfairly lost their jobs and the number of inspections of amusement park rides. The report also includes information on their outreach and education initiatives.

“Each year on Labor Day, the Illinois Department of Labor recognizes the critical importance of all workers to our communities and recommits itself to safeguarding workers’ core rights, including the rights to be paid promised wages, provided basic meal and rest breaks and days off, and to come home safely at the end of the day,” Illinois Department of Labor Director Jane Flanagan said in a news release.

The agency highlighted collecting $3.1 million for workers in back wages and other forms of compensation.

IDOL officials also highlight their work with immigrants in Chicago to educate them about the state’s labor laws. With Chicago-area community groups, IDOL taught more than 1,000 individuals about their rights through more than 30 presentations.
