TUSCOLA, Ill. (WCIA) — More cows let loose from an accident have been rescued, but officials in Douglas County are still looking for a few remaining cows.

A semi-trailer hauling 67 cows rolled over on I-57 in Tuscola last month. Around 20 were killed, and cowboys have been working to locate the cows that got loose.

Jim Crane of the Douglas County Highway Department said in an email to WCIA that two cows were caught Wednesday night, with a total of three cows captured in the last two days. This leaves two remaining cows still on the loose.

Officials found Wednesday afternoon the place where the cows were bedding down and calling “home” with the assistance of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and cowboys and cowgirls from the nearby area and Indiana. The cows were not there when this discovery was made.

The two remaining cows are in an area southeast of Tuscola between County Roads 1100E and 1275E (County Highway 9) and County Roads 700N and 800N, Crane estimated. Food and water are not concerns for the cows as there are vast waterways with plenty of grass and several drainage ditches, including the Scattering Fork.

Crane said any sightings should be reported to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office by calling 217-253-2913. The Sheriff’s Office will then pass the information onto the cowboys and cowgirls who have been tasked to retrieve them.
