Commissioner: 5 arrested after large fight in Newport over the weekend

Five people were arrested after a large fight on a street in Newport Saturday night.

Video provided by Wintrr Rose shows a large group fighting on W. 10th Street between Liberty and Central. There were at least 10 people in the video with some screaming, some throwing punches and others using objects like a frying pans and a mop.

Eventually, a cop car drives to the scene of the fight and flashes its lights, causing some of those fighting to run.

City Commissioner Ken Rechtin said both adults and juveniles were involved.

Four people were charged with disorderly conduct while a fifth was charged with assault.

Rechtin said the city is planning on discussing ways to prevent future incidents.
