CENTERVILLE, Ohio (WDTN) — This weekend is the 43rd annual Dayton Guitar Fest.

It’s a chance for local artists to come together to showcase their music and spread their message to the community.

“Music offers people of all ages a chance to participate in something beautiful every day,” says Jim McCutcheon.

McCutcheon has been an advocate of the arts since he and his wife opened their shop, McCutcheon Music, in 1988. More than 30 years later they now have 60 teachers, spreading the arts to people of all ages across the Miami Valley.

This weekend, Jim and other local musicians will be getting together for an event that’s been going on for more than 40 years.

“Guitar Fest has been an annual event in our community since 1981, and it features a number of regional guitarists who are of varying styles,” says McCutcheon. “Everybody’s playing between one and three songs and then the next person comes on and there’s a variety of styles. So it’s something. If you don’t like one style, there’ll be somebody up there in 10 minutes who will be doing something different.”

The free community event is co-sponsored by the Dayton Guitar Society and the Centerville Arts Commission.

Jim encourages everyone to come out and take part.

Guitar Fest is happening this Sunday, Sept. 8 from 4-7 pm at Cornerstone Park .
