Like all pro wrestling promotions, AEW is always looking to bolster its roster with new talent. And now, after he worked two Collision tapings in Canada early this year, Fightful Select has reported that 23-year-old Tommy Billington has signed with AEW. However, it should be noted that the report notes it isn’t known whether he received a full-time contract or is on a per-appearance deal, which is typical for many unestablished talents when they first join AEW.

“Dynamite Kid Tommy Billington had a couple impressive showings within AEW against Konosuke Takeshita and Dax Harwood in recent months. Since then, many have asked about his status within the company. According to talent close to Tommy, they say that he’s been signed by AEW … All Elite Wrestling has not confirmed this signing, and we’ve not heard if the deal is full-time or a tiered, per appearance deal.”

For those unaware, Billington is the nephew of The Dynamite Kid, who worked for WWF, Stampede Wrestling, All Japan, and New Japan, often alongside his cousin Davey Boy Smith. And while he had a terrible reputation due to purposely injuring opponents and bullying those weaker than him in the locker room, he is still regarded as one of the most influential wrestlers ever. Sadly, his legendary career would be cut short while he was in his 30s due to injury, and after being confined to a wheelchair for decades, he passed away in 2018 on his 60th birthday.
