Earlier this week, it was announced on social media that Swerve Strickland had purchased his childhood home after signing a new contract with AEW. And while some speculated online that it might be part of an angle, many fans seemingly believed it was a genuine purchase based on the comments.

However, after Adam Page set fire to the house at the conclusion of Dynamite, everyone realized it was part of the build leading to Strickland’s Lights Out Steel Cage match with Page at All Out. Still, those who were fooled by the initial announcement needn’t feel bad, as according to Fightful Select , many actual talents also believed it was true, and Strickland would even thank one wrestler who congratulated him to avoid breaking kayfabe.

“The actual house that was used saw a very small crew travel to burn it down, and had professional supervision. The angle had been planned for months, we’re told, with many on the AEW roster not knowing it was happening. Numerous talent both in and out of AEW congratulated Swerve, not knowing buying the house was an angle. One wrestler told us that Swerve actually kayfabed them and thanked them.”

Strickland and Page first wrestled each other as part of an eight-man tag match on the indies in 2015. However, their first match in AEW would come eight years later at WrestleDream last October, which was followed by Strickland breaking into Page’s house, making their feud personal. Subsequently, they wrestled a Texas Death match at Full Gear, which was controversial as Page would drip Strickland’s blood into his mouth. Since then, the fierce rivals have kept their feud going by wrestling on Dynamite and Revolution earlier this year, although All Out’s main event is expected to conclude one of AEW’s most memorable programs.
