James Hetfield Recalls Questionable Methods Metallica Used To Survive
As globally huge as they are now, it’s kind of hard to imagine Metallica as starving artists. But in the band’s early days, that’s exactly what they were. Frontman James Hetfield talked about the band’s challenging circumstances in the mid-80s on the latest episode of The Metallica Report podcast. The band recorded two albums, “Ride The Lightning” and “Master Of Puppets,” at Sweet Silence Studios in Denmark. “We were up in the attic, sleeping on the floor and stealing food from other bands that were coming through there, stealing bikes just to get around, stealing empty beer bottles to go...
Steph De Lander Exposes Promoter For Inappropriate Booking Inquiry
Steph De Lander is one of the hottest wrestlers on the indies at the moment, thanks to being the Sensational Sherri to Matt Cardona’s Randy Savage. However, with her being unsigned, her inbox is still open to independent promoters looking to work with her. Yet it sadly appears not all inquiries she and other performers receive are professional, and this was demonstrated by De Lander on X when she shared an inquiry requesting photos of her “naked without makeup” before she’d be booked. 27-year-old De Lander broke into the business in her home country of Australia before signing with WWE and becoming known as Persia Pirotta. And while her NXT run would be short, that didn’t dampen her spirits, and she continues to chase her pro wrestling dream. Subsequently, she has appeared for AEW, MLW, GCW, and TNA, and given fan reactions, it seems to be just a matter of time before she secures a full-time contract somewhere.
Kurt Angle Reveals How He Accidentally Promoted A Cryptocurrency Scam
As if there needed to be any further proof that scammers are getting smarter, Kurt Angle has revealed on social media platform X that he was recently inadvertently made part of a crypto scam. According to the Olympic gold medalist, nefarious overseas internet users purchased a Cameo video from him and had him read something out. Subsequently, the tricksters made it look like he was endorsing their cryptocurrency, which appears to be marketed under the name $kurt and is worth $0.001902 per coin as of writing. Some people believe that cryptocurrency is the future of the money. Yet, with the absence of proper regulation and the reputation for being involved in illegal activities, many are skeptical of the idea of a decentralized currency, and some countries have outright outlawed them. Still, with the potential of making serious money, many people are prepared to tackle the risks head-on, hoping to have the next Bitcoin, although clearly $kurt isn’t it.
British Wrestler Confirms He Has Undergone Surgery
In disappointing news, Michael Cole announced on Raw that Tyler Bate was set for a spell on the sidelines. And now the British pro wrestler has shared more details on Instagram, revealing that he has undergone surgery for a torn pectoral muscle. How long this will keep Bate out of the ring isn’t clear, but it seems doubtful he’ll wrestle again this year. 27-year-old Bate holds the distinction of being the youngest singles champion in WWE history, winning the NXT United Kingdom Championship when aged just 19. From there, he became a focal point of WWE’s NXT UK brand before joining the full version of NXT. And while he began wrestling on SmackDown at the start of 2024, having established a tag team with Pete Dunne, known as the New Catch Republic, he is now officially part of Raw following the draft, although most recently, the duo had been wrestling on NXT.
Former NXT Wrestler Returning To The Ring Following Hiatus
Back in 2019, ACH, known at the time as Jordan Myles, made headlines after he accused his then-employer, WWE, of being racist after they produced a t-shirt with his name appearing to resemble smiling red lips. And while some would say he was overreacting, others sided with the former ROH performer and could see the racist connotations. Subsequently, he departed WWE after saying he “refused to work for racists,” and having teased retirement, it appeared he had quit the business in 2022. However, it has now been announced that he will return to the ring on July 13 for SCWPro in Iowa. 36-year-old ACH broke into the wrestling business via the Texas indie scene and, after building up his name, would go on to work for Ring of Honor and AAA, which saw him gain a reputation as a great high-flyer. From there, he would wrestle for Impact Wrestling, NOAH, and New Japan, proving he was ready to take the next step with WWE signing him in 2019. Yet, despite winning the NXT Breakout Tournament soon after debuting, his WWE career would abruptly end after the aforementioned t-shirt controversy.
Finn Bálor Reveals The Length Of His New WWE Contract
Three months ago, Finn Bálor announced on X that “I ain’t going nowhere,” indicating he had signed a new contract with WWE. And now, while appearing on the What’s The Story podcast, the Judgment Day member has revealed while discussing a potential match with Gunther that his contract extension was for five years. Therefore, he will be with the company until he is 47, which is no longer considered old for a pro wrestler, considering names like Bobby Lashley, Chris Jericho, Christian Cage, and Rey Mysterio have proven age is just a number. Bálor rose to fame in New Japan during an eight-year run with the promotion. However, he became a global star when he signed with WWE in 2014 and has since won virtually every championship open to him, including the inaugural WWE Universal Championship. Still, his time in the Judgment Day has taken him to a whole new level in terms of character development, and, therefore, it’s somewhat surprising that WWE even let his contract get close to expiry.
AEW’s Eddie Kingston Provides Surgery Update
Eddie Kingston’s career was at its pinnacle earlier this year thanks to Tony Khan recognizing his everyman babyface potential. Still, after he, unfortunately, broke his leg following a collision with the guardrail during the finish of his match with Gabe Kidd at NJPW Strong Resurgence, he is currently sidelined from the ring. And while an exact timeline for his return remains unclear, it’s believed he won’t wrestle again until mid-2025. However, there is finally some positive news, as the 42-year-old has confirmed via Instagram he has undergone surgery, which appears to have been successful at this stage. It’s well known that the former ROH Champion had seriously contemplated retiring from the wrestling business prior to signing with AEW, having failed to establish himself as a featured performer. Yet his persistence would eventually pay off when, in his late 30s, AEW booked him to wrestle Cody Rhodes on Dynamite for the TNT Championship. Yet, rather than this being his swan song, he impressed in the ring and wowed with his promo work, giving AEW little option but to sign him.
Queens Of The Stone Age Cancel Remaining Tour Dates Due To Emergency
Queens Of The Stone Age were in the midst of a European Tour but have been forced to cancel their remaining dates due to an unspecified emergency in regards to frontman Josh Homme. “QOTSA regret to announce that Josh Homme must return to the United States immediately for emergency surgery,” the band said in a social media announcement. “Every effort was made to push through and play for you, but it is no longer an option to continue.” The band captioned their post: “Queens are gutted we aren’t able to play for you. We apologize for any inconvenience and share in your frustration and disappointment.” The band performed on Saturday night in Italy after canceling their appearance at the AMA Music Festival the night prior due to presumably Homme’s unspecified illness. Prior to the release of their latest album, “In Times New Roman,” Homme revealed that he had been diagnosed with cancer in 2022 and had a successful operation to have it removed.
NXT Wrestler Announces His Unexpected WWE Departure
In unexpected news, NXT wrestler Bobby Steveson, who competed under the ring name Damon Kemp and was part of the No Quarter Catch Crew has announced on X that he is no longer with WWE. Based on his tweet, it wasn’t clear whether he was let or asked for his release, although Fightful Select has since reported WWE decided not to renew his contract. Having signed with WWE in August 2021 as part of a new class of Performance Center recruits, Kemp would make his television debut a few months later against Andre Chase on 205 Live. And while he likely needed more ring time before he would be ready for main roster call-up, given his age and amateur wrestling background, it appeared he would be given every opportunity to succeed. Although, with his younger brother Gable Steveson having been let go by the company back in May, perhaps Kemp’s departure was always inevitable.
Real American Beer Spokesperson Addresses False Hulk Hogan Accusation
Over the weekend, Hulk Hogan’s reputation suffered a severe blow after Essence Jenai, a model and influencer who was hired to promote his new beer, accused the two-time WWE Hall of Famer of firing her due to her skin color. This allegation would quickly spread on social media, with millions of people having viewed a tweet shared by @ArtOfDialogue_ regarding this. However, a spokesperson for the alcohol brand has now provided a statement to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, where they clarified that Hogan had no involvement in the decision and they are looking to get Jenai’s false statement withdrawn. 70-year-old Hogan’s world fell apart in 2015 after the National Enquirer and Radar Online made public a recording of the wrestling legend using racist language, which subsequently saw him let go by WWE, although his lawyer claims Hogan resigned. And while it initially appeared his career in the mainstream was over, thanks to issuing apologies and multiple black wrestlers and celebrities, including Kamala, Virgil, Dennis Rodman, and Mr. T, standing by him, he was able to return to the business and begin rebuilding his legacy.
Maria Kanellis Says “Listen To Your Body” After Discovering Worrying Health Issue
Former WWE diva Maria Kanellis has been dealing with multiple health issues in recent years, which even saw her have to have half her thyroid removed. And while it was hoped she was going to have a continuous spell of good health, she has now revealed via X that a growth has been discovered following a CT scan her insurance company initially declined. What this means for her immediate future is currently unclear, but she would advise fans to “listen to your body” and later posted an update noting she will be seeing an endocrinologist surgeon. Kanellis, along with her husband Mike Bennett, signed with AEW in October 2022 after their time with Impact Wrestling came to an end. It’s understood WWE was an option for them, but AEW’s schedule worked better for their family. Yet the couple has since been separated on screen, with Bennett remaining on AEW television as part of the Undisputed Kingdom while Kanellis is now working for sister promotion ROH as the manager of Cole Karter and Griff Garrison. However, with Karter having suffered a broken arm, her long-term future is unknown, although right now, her health is everyone’s priority.
Backstage News On Whether WWE Referee Rod Zapata Has Heat Following Money In The Bank
While the big talking point coming out of Money In The Bank was John Cena’s retirement announcement, a very close second was Damian Priest’s failure to kick out during his match with Seth Rollins. And while Triple H would comment on this botch during the post-show press conference by saying, “Mistakes happen,” whether referee Rod Zapata had heat for stopping the count remained unknown. However, insider X account @WrestleVotes has now confirmed that there was no heat on Zapata, although it was noted that there would have been in the past. WWE’s protocol is that referees should call matches like a shoot and count the pin if the shoulders are down on three, regardless of how big the bout is. Yet given the stipulation was that had Rollins won, Priest would have to leave Judgment Day, it’s understandable why Zapata had second thoughts. Still, considering he was the referee that Vince McMahon heavily fined for counting the three when Ronda Rousey’s shoulders clearly weren’t down in the main event of WrestleMania 35, it was a risky decision to make.
Jey Uso Adopts Variation Of Famous Brock Lesnar Slogan
Having briefly taken over Bray Wyatt’s fireflies prior to the return of Uncle Howdy, Jey Uso has now borrowed from another WWE star, with his latest shirt saying “Eat, Sleep, Yeet, Repeat.” This is a variation of Brock Lesnar’s famous “Eat, Sleep, Conquer, Repeat” slogan, which was coined by Paul Heyman all the way back in 2013 and now looks set to be another big merchandise mover for the company “Yeet” has become a word closely associated with Jey Uso after he frequently used it during Fastlane’s post-show press conference. And while it initially appeared WWE would have to stop using the word due to independent wrestler Kassey Huffman having previously trademarked it in 2021, the belief is WWE cut him a check to take ownership. Since then, Uso’s merchandise has constantly appeared near the top of WWE’s merchandise reports, with word being the driving factor.
Kerry King Reveals Why Tom Araya Didn’t Play Bass On Several Slayer Records
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Slayer guitarist Kerry King said that he played bass on every Slayer record since the ’90s. “I have (played the bass),” he said. “Since the early nineties I’ve done all the rhythm guitars and all the bass. I’ve always done bass because my guy (Araya) really didn’t.” In a new interview with Guitar World, King elaborated on why he held down the bottom end for Slayer records instead of the band’s frontman. “We would always let Tom play bass until he got tired of not being good at it,” King said. “In Tom’s defense, up to that...
FFDP Guitarist Says Band Is One Of The Gatekeepers Of Heavy Metal
Five Finger Death Punch recently did a posthumous collaboration with rapper DMX on the song “This Is The Way.” The song drew a mixed reaction from metal fans, and guitarist Zoltan Bathory was asked about the close-mindedness of some fans of the genre. Bathory todl Summa Inferno: “There’s definitely that, there’s definitely the closed-mindedness, there’s definitely this idea… It’s almost like it’s funny because the more extreme stuff you listen to, the more of a gatekeeping is happening, like, ‘This is our music.’ And if anybody [who is] not into extreme metal likes a band, then that close circle will...
Nikki Sixx Reacts To Criticism Of Latest Mötley Crüe Song
Mötley Crüe released a new tune, “Dogs Of War,” back in April. The song drew mixed response online, but bassist Nikki Sixx isn’t too concerned with it saying that “now everybody’s a critic.” “We like the fact that there was kind of a knee-jerk reaction, because at least people were listening,” Sixx told Swedish radio station Rockklassiker. “It’s a very strange time now where, whether it’s a news cycle or socials, everybody has turned into a critic. And I always say, they’ve never erected a statue of a critic. It’s never happened, right? It’s always the artist. But now everybody’s a critic. So...
Andrade Shares Painful-Looking Photograph Following Money In The Bank Ladder Match
While he wouldn’t be victorious, many fans online called Andrade the MVP of Saturday night’s men’s Money In The Bank ladder match. And now displaying the after-effects of his efforts to make the match memorable, he has shared a photograph on X of his back looking bruised and battered, which he captained “Smile at the pain!!!“ Andrade’s WWE return at the Royal Rumble was met with high expectations, as many believed he would receive a significant push to showcase what AEW was missing. And while he hasn’t lost a singles or tag match since his return, some fans have expressed disappointment at his mid-card positioning, with Sime even suggesting he should have stayed in AEW. However, with his recent WWE Speed victory and his impressive performance at Money In the Bank, it’s clear that Andrade’s star is on the rise in the WWE.
Planned AEW Feud At Risk Due To Injury Sustained During Collision Match
In disappointing news, Fightful Select has reported that Riho was injured during her match with Lady Frost during this week’s episode of Collision against Lady Frost. Precisly when the injury occurred isn’t clear, although as she was holding her left arm after a turnbuckle crossbody dive, that appears to be the most likely spot. This was the Japanese wrestler’s first match since a defeat to Willow Nightingale in March, and with a program with Serena Deeb having been teased, the timing is terrible. Riho has been wrestling since she was just nine years old and made history by being the inaugural AEW Women’s Champion, holding the title between October 2019 and February 2020. However, while she was one of the promotion’s top stars at launch, she has since fallen down the pecking order, with AEW’s women’s roster having grown significantly in recent years. Yet, considering she is only 27 years old and immensely talented, it seems only a matter of time before she is a title challenger again.
Stephanie Vaquer Has A Huge Decision To Make
Stephanie Vaquer recently became known to North American wrestling fans after she wrestled Mercedes Moné at Forbidden Door. Yet despite not being victorious, she impressed fans with her performance, leading many to believe it would only be a matter of time before she joined a major US promotion. And now it has been reported by record.com.mx that the Chilean wrestler has actually received offers from both AEW and WWE, for whom she tried out in 2018, with it expected that she will make her decision in the coming days. 31-year-old Vaquer holds both Chilean and Mexican citizenship, which opened the door for her wrestling for CMLL, where she has achieved great success and currently works. However, she has also competed in Japan for Ice Ribbon, Stardom, and New Japan, establishing herself as a true international talent. And while it isn’t known whether she prefers signing with WWE or AEW, as of late, Tony Khan has been showing off his financial muscle by signing Will Ospreay, Kazuchika Okada, and Mercedes Moné despite WWE’s interest.
Triple H Comments On Damian Priest’s Huge Mistake During Money In The Bank
For the second premium live event in a row, World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest was involved in a botch, which became the big talking point on social media after his match. And while getting his leg caught in the ropes at Clast At The Castle was embarrassing, the fact he didn’t kick out at Money In The Bank when he was meant to has left many fans questioning whether he is the right person to be champion. However, it appears his boss, Triple H, isn’t too concerned as he would acknowledge the botch during the post-show press conference by saying, “Mistakes happen, things happen, it is what it is.“ It’s been long known that WWE protocol is that referees should count the pin if the shoulders are down on three, regardless of how big the match is. Therefore, it will be interesting to see whether Rod Zapata, who was the official for the match, gets any backstage heat for stoping the count, especially as he was previously fined for counting Ronda Rousey’s shoulders down at WrestleMania 35 when they weren’t. Yet, Vince McMahon was in charge at that time, so such instances could now be treated differently under Triple H.
