EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — The city of Evansville is looking to make room for new affordable housing on Market Street. Officials say Market Street Apartments will create 59 new living spaces for the community.

The request at today’s public works meeting approves a nearly $3 million contract for the project. The agreement is with a Texas investment firm called Global Integrity Investments.

Officials say the units will be made available to people who make 35% less than the average household income in the area.

One person says anything that improves the downtown area is amazing.

“I think adding the Post House was really great for downtown, and I think having more apartments for people to live is always great, especially if it’s affordable housing,” says Kimberly Goldman, a local resident.
