    Memorial Day 2024 services across the Tri-State

    HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Here’s a look at Memorial Day 2024 services across the Tri-State.

    Kentucky

    Henderson County

    Officials with the American Legion Post 40 in Henderson say their services for Memorial Day are at Central Park in Henderson. This will be beside the old Courthouse on May 27.

    Service starts at 10 a.m. until about 11:30 a.m., which includes a few speakers, songs from “local celebrities,” the hanging of Wreaths for each branch of Service, the showing of the POW/MIA table set up and the 21 Gun Salute by the Honor Guard of the American Legion.

    Officials say after that event, people are invited to go the American Legion at 1709 Madison Street in Henderson, where there will be a Memorial Day lunch starting at around noon.

    Officials with the organization note that 6,000 crosses were placed in Central Park this year.

    Indiana

    Perry County

    This is the Cannelton American Legion Harry G. Myers Post 142’s schedule for May 27:

    • Sigler Cemetery – 7:45 a.m.
    • Uniontown cemetery – 7:55 a.m.
    • Carr cemetery – 8:55 a.m.
    • Cummins cemetery – 9:25 a.m.
    • Rome cemetery –  9:45 a.m.
    • Millstone Plane Crash Site – 10:05 a.m.
    • Millstone Church  – 10:15 a.m.
    • Lamb Cemetery – 10:30 a.m.
    • Methodist Church Tobinsport – 10:40 a.m.
    • Bolin Cemetery – 11 a.m.
    • St. Michael Cemetery – 11:20 a.m.
    • City – new cemetery at Cannelton – 11:25 a.m.
    • City – old cemetery at Cannelton – 11:30 a.m.
    • Hawesville, Kentucky cemetery – 11:45 a.m.
    • Perry County Museum Veterans’ Park Cannelton – 11:55 a.m.
    • Hargis Hafele Riverside Park – 12:05 p.m – End of route

    The public is invited to attend any and all of these ceremonies.

    There will be a short prayer service, 21-gun salute and TAPS will be played at each location.

    Warrick County

    The Kapperman American Legion Post 44 says its Memorial day services will be on May 25 at 11 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery in Newburgh.

    The event will go as follows:

    • Go to Rose Hill Cemetery in Newburgh
    • Listen to Old Dam Community Band music
    • Honoring fallen heroes
    • Honoring Legionnaire members who have recently passed away
    • Honor Guard firing salute
    • Sounding of TAPS

    The Warrick County Veterans Honor Guard will have a service at Maple Grove Cemetery at 10:30 a.m.. Officials say this will be made up of the Boonville American Legion and VFW Post 3418.

    Vanderburgh County

    The Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs of Vanderburgh County released the following Memorial Day Program for 2024:

    Dubois County

    According to the Dubois County Veterans Service Office, here is the itinerary for Memorial Day 2024:

    • 8:30 Meet at Jasper Legion to load chairs, podium, bell and gavel
    • 9:00 Honor Guard to meet at Jasper Legion to check out rifles and practice.
      • Charlie Dupps is the Sergeant of Arms
    • 9:15 Set up chairs and stuff on the square
    • 9:45 Ensure guests are seated and check final line-up
    • 9:55 Announce 5 minutes to start
    • 10:00 Start program
      • Sergeant of Arms, Bring Honor Guard to attention
      • All Veterans please salute the National colors
      • Play the National Anthem
      • President of the DCVC to make an opening statement
      • Opening Prayer
      • Comments from Special Guests
      • Marine Corps League to lower the Flag to Half-mast
      • Pow/MIA Ritual
      • Navy Ship Club #90 to present US Navy Ritual
      • Introduce Guest Speaker
      • Honor the Deceased Veteran
        • Recognize Family
        • Read Biography
        • Present Plaque
        • Welcome family to lay a wreath at the Memorial Stone
      • Remember Deceased Veterans that have passed since last Memorial Day
      • Closing prayer
      • Honor Guard 21 Gun Salute
      • Conclude program.

    Officials ask for people to please remember and look for the local Posts’ schedule for placing flags at the cemeteries and other Observances held throughout the Memorial Day weekend.
