Madisonville jewelry store to close after almost 90 years in business

HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – A Madisonville jewelry store has taken to social media to announce their upcoming closure.

Clements Jewelers has served the area for almost 90 years, and owners said competing with big businesses and online shopping isn’t feasible anymore.

“After 89 years we have tried our best, but competing with larger retailers and online shopping isn’t feasible anymore,” owners said. “We have seen a massive decrease in community shopping in the past few years due to us not being able to compete with larger retail pricing and the price of repairs has grown 60% in the past 4 years which has been unavoidable.” “While we love our community and have cherished every moment, we have to do what’s best for our families and employees.”

Owners said starting Wednesday, a 35% off Store Closing sale will be effective while also selling decor, fixtures, wrapping paper, office supplies, etc.

Owners also said while an official closing date has yet to be announced, it is expected to be late September.

Owners did emphasize one part.

“Our Permanent Jewelry location will continue to operate as normal and is NOT CLOSING! We have many planned events in the future and are excited to continue serving our community in that fashion!”

The store will also not be taking in any repairs or doing any appraisals during the closing.
