Final suspect in 2023 Mt. Vernon Avenue shooting sentenced

HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – The final suspect in a fatal shooting on Mount Vernon Avenue in October 2023 has been sentenced in Vanderburgh County Superior Court on Friday.

Court records show Richard Garrett was sentenced to 14 years in prison for armed robbery after accepting a plea deal in his part of the murders of Michael Blankenship and Mitchell Greathouse.

Two other suspects, Caden Harms and John Parker were already sentenced with Harms receiving 45 years and Parker receiving 110 years, effectively a life sentence.

Police state that Garrett acted as the getaway driver while Parker carried out the shooting with Harms acting as the lookout.

Garrett testified during Parker’s trial. The state said that if Garrett testified truthfully, it could have impacted his own case.

Another suspect, Melecia Williams was sentenced to four years after police say she stepped over the bodies and stole multiple items.
