WEBSTER COUNTY, KY. (WEHT)- The Webster County Sheriff’s Office is sharing statistics for the month of July.

Statistics show that there have been 111 traffic stops in the county.

    These numbers detail 181 citations.
Sheriff Billy Braden says the department of 5 is working overtime to keep the community safe, but the biggest problem it encounters is accidents needing investigation with 24 for the month of July.

Sherrif Braden says, “From a rural perspective, like the injury accidents. If we can address those and lower those injury accidents down if we can take the at fault collision down, you never stop the deer wrecks, stuff like that, but the distracted driving is a huge problem playing more so than being drunk driving at this point.”

The statistics also show that there have been 8 DUI’s related to alcohol or drug use for the month.

Sheriff Billy Braden says next to investigation accidents, driving under the influence is a big problem.
Sheriff Braden says the department is seeing anywhere from 7-10 DUI’s a month, which is a significant increase for Webster County.

Braden says, ‘I’d say the majority of our DUI’s are drug related, controlled substance related, and I think the up-tick is that we have seen all the certified guys do it. I call it aride, advanced roadside interviews or mitigation techniques and that is I think what’s driven that it’s just giving them the tools to identify the impaired drivers from a drug related standpoint.’

Sheriff Braden hopes there is a decrease in driving under the influence arrests next month.
The department is working towards a goal of zero by the end of the year.
